Dr. Gustavo Pérez González, a senior project manager at the University of Barcelona, leads the RECOPHARMA initiative, which focuses on the removal and recovery of persistent pharmaceutical pollutants from wastewater. This project, funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program, aims to develop effective treatments to eliminate cytostatic drugs from hospital effluents, thereby preventing their release into the environment.

In a recent interview at the Warrington Museum in North West England, Dr. Pérez González discussed the project’s objectives and the support received from Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. He emphasized the importance of addressing pharmaceutical pollutants to protect environmental and human health.
